The Research Studio: Workshop on Energy Storage
This workshop is organized by one of our society members and may be of interest to the crystal growth community:
The Research Studio assembles a transdisciplinary alliance of practitioners from natural sciences, social sciences, and the arts to (re)think storage and conversion of energy in its molecular, technical, political, environmental and aesthetic aspects.
From the laboratory to pilot reactors, we will interrogate together our practices; why certain types of devices, certain physicochemical phenomena are emphasized in research above others? From the catalytic evolution of a dihydrogen molecule to the implementation of a carbon capture plant to produce “blue hydrogen”, we will zoom in on factors that shape research processes around energy storage and conversion and zoom out to grasp the effects on societal and planetary scales. Opening up this black box of the energy transition enables us to explicate obfuscated interests, values and relations: whose needs are being served by high-tech storage solutions like batteries and hydrogen?
The Research Studio is envisioned to take place in Amsterdam, Leiden and surrounding areas, in April 2025 (April 1, 8, 15 & 16). Please find the full call text, all information, and the registration form in the link below:
